The Six Pieces for Solo Oboe, composed in 1981 by Sigismund Toduță and dedicated to oboist Aurel Marc, were premiered on November 9, 1982, in Cluj-Napoca. The work was published in 2001 by Arpeggione Publishing, in an edition curated by Marc himself. Designed as miniatures, the pieces can be performed in any order chosen by the interpreter. Their metaphorical titles – …for caroling, …for longing, …for storytelling, …for narrating, …for mourning, and …for dancing – are not meant to convey a strict musical narrative but rather suggest moods and atmospheres.

The slower pieces – …for longing, …for storytelling, and …for narrating – feature parlando rubato style, flexible writing, and rich melismas. …for caroling presents a theme in the spirit of a carol, developed through gradual ornamentation and shortened note values. …for mourning alternates an eighth-note motif reminiscent of the B-A-C-H theme with sixteenth-note groupings. In contrast, …for dancing introduces continuous motion around the second interval, with a gradual tempo acceleration leading to the instrument’s upper register, ending the cycle with energy and virtuosity.
